How long have you been interested in art?
I have been creating for as long as I can remember. It's an integral part of my life. I was around seven when I started my art education. Slowly but steadily, art school became a second home to me, a place where I wanted to go even when I didn't have any classes.
What made you start creating art?
I believe there was always that desire in me to breach the gap between my imagination and reality. I do not have a single bright memory of me drawing as a kid, which I can pinpoint my eagerness to create to. Instead, I remember drawing whenever and wherever I could: while waiting for my Mom to finish her work, at home sitting at the table or even lying on the floor.
What do you enjoy about it?
There is something magical about giving shape to an idea. I love watching how a blank piece of paper becomes alive with lines and colour until the artwork is born. My favourite part of work is adding colour. Everything that comes before is a foreword. I immerse myself into colour, combining hues and building up a picture. Step by step a colour story comes together better than I envisioned it.
How long have you created art in this particular style?
Around four or five years ago, I discovered alcohol-based markers. It was love from the first artwork. I could not stop drawing with markers ever since and don't want to.
Please tell us about your illustration kit
My goal was to create a kit with a harmonious colour scheme. You can mix colours to create new hues and blend them into smooth gradients.
Within nine tutorials, I strived to show as many different techniques as I could. The principles I describe there are not artwork specific and can be easily used in other projects.
Which is your favourite drawing in your kit?
It's hard to choose just one. Turtle was the first drawing from the kit, which makes it special for me. I'm happy with how the rough warm shell texture looks next to the cold, smooth skin. I'm also fond of Moth's cool, sophisticated colour scheme. It's a wonderful example, proving that you don't need a lot of markers to make an expressive artwork.
What can people expect from the kit?
Each tutorial has its own focus, for example, Moth teaches you how to overlay colours, whereas Water Lily shows how to use lines to create texture. The tutorials vary in difficulty, starting from the easier ones where basic marker techniques and principles are explored to the more advanced ones where whole scenes are created.
What is your top tip for creating art using your technique?
Be curious, and don't be afraid to mix colours. For example, when you combine yellow-orange and purple from the kit, you'll get a beautiful warm brown.
What made you want to partner with Spectrum Noir, and why do you enjoy using their products?
I was excited about an opportunity to package my marker knowledge into accessible tutorials. I love teaching, and this way, I could reach a wide audience of diverse creatives.
What I highly appreciate about Spectrum Noir products is that they are both high quality and affordable. Bringing your ideas to life shouldn't break the bank.
What's your favourite colour combination with the colours in the kit?
That’s definitely moths colour scheme: Pale Mint (BT1), Carribean (AB3), Sorbet (PV1) and Heather (HB3).
Another beautiful combination is Sunshine (CT2) and Baby Pink (PP2). Together they create a bright orange colour.
