On 10th February 2024, a brand new lunar cycle begins and with celebrations aplenty, particularly from those who celebrate Chinese New Year, it’s the perfect time to craft your own decorations.
Below, we’ve listed 4 Chinese New Year craft ideas and products that will help you create perfectly themed decorations.
Create your own lucky red envelope
At Chinese New Year, it’s tradition to gift friends and family a red envelope (also known as hóngbāo) filled with money. In Chinese culture, the colour red symbolises good luck and prosperity for the brand new year ahead, however, the traditional envelope is said to come with many rules.
Did you know that only clean, crisp notes are to be put inside a hóngbāo? And the amount inside should never include the number 4? For example, you’d never include £40, or £400, as the pronunciation of the word ‘four’ in Chinese is similar to the word for death.
Our A4 Luxury Red Cardstock Pack is perfect for your red envelope, with 3 different finishes included like mirror card and mat mirror card. Pair your card with The Enveloper Pro Scoreboard to score your envelope from scratch, and decorate it accordingly.

To create this, she's used a 5 x 7 card blank, red floral paper from the Botanic Garden Paper Pad, Red Pearl paper, Gold Gilding Flakes and a Circle Nesting Die. She made the panel flags using a rectangle die and created the gorgeous embossed red circle using the 'small checked embossing folder' from QVC Winter Wishes Autoship.
